13 Pieces of Advice for starting a Christian School

Know Your Calling: What role (and we all have one) are you meant to play in bringing up future generations for God?

Don’t focus on existing skill set: Many times God has chosen those without many obvious skills to accomplish great feats.

Go forward without fear, and avoid Paralysis by Analysis: Prepare, but No time is ever perfect. Trust God to provide.

Choose the appropriate educational model (homeschool, Christian school, pods, Cottage school, …) to your situation.

Choose an appropriate core curriculum to your situation (A.C.E. helped with his scarcity of skilled teachers). Don’t be afraid to supplement/deviate.

Plan how to finance your school (money does matter): Grants, Fundraisers, Donations, Tuition, …

Pay who you can, when you can: Take care of your people, but you have to “keep the lights on.”

Utilize volunteers: More people want you to succeed than you expect and they often bring valuable, unexpected skills.

Have staff meetings and allow everyone to contribute: Engagement leads to investment.

Have parent/teacher meetings: Open parent communication, investment & involvement is key.

Demand respect for the learning process: Be authentic, compassionate, complimentary & strict with students.

Get the “pattern”/”grounding” for everything through prayer.

Prioritize both academic & moral/spiritual growth.
The Big 3:
HOMESCHOOLING – One or Both Parents collaborate to educate their own kids, typically within their own home.
Homeschool Pods – A recent trend in Homeschooling is for Parents from different families to collaborate in educating their children jointly.
PRIVATE SCHOOLS –
HYBRID EDUCATION – Several models of education combine elements of private schools & Homeschooling.
Cottage Schools – Parents (or groups of parents) who don’t feel comfortable teaching subjects themselves, but also don’t like the full-time school environment.
Supplementary Tutoring –
Everyone has something to contribute!

Join a Conservative Church or Charitable Organization, or join like-minded people in Local Liberty Activism Groups. Get informed and educate the public... Do Something!

Nothing has been more destructive to the long-term prospects of liberty than Marxist infiltration, control of, and indoctrination within our educational system (esp. higher ed & teacher colleges). Freedom is never more than one generation from extinction.
ESCAPE is a Coalition of Education Activism Groups, Concerned Parents, and Community Leaders have begun several initiatives to address Kentucky’s Educational System. Beyond legislative actions, these groups have been working to facilitate K-12 homeschooling and helping to start Christian Schools.
Take this ESCAPE Coalition Parent Survey about your interest in School Choice and Alternative Education. Then, print out and popularize this flier to other concerned parents and grandparents (eg hand them out in a blitz at school events, after-school pick-up lines, etc.).

ISSUE AND LOCATION TARGETED PETITIONS that you then promote on Social Media are a great way to easily and cheaply collect those contacts and build our networks.
Educate Teachers on Availability of Affordable, A-political Unions
The largest national Teacher Unions (AFT; NEA/NFT) have become among the largest and most influential financiers of left-wing political candidates and opponents to School Choice. Not to mention, they have been major proponents of their members indoctrinating children in to radical Marxist ideology.
Try handing this flier out at, or taping to the door of, the teachers’ entrances at schools one or two days every week.
